The response of the Attorney-General (A-G) to a request by a private legal practitioner regarding the $2.25 billion bond issued by government two months ago, vindicates the Minority's claim that the deal is shady. That's according to a lawyer, Victor Kojoga Adawudu.

Mr Adawudu, a member of the legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had written to the A-G for details about the issuance of the bond after the Minority in Parliament accused Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta of conflict of interest in the transaction.

In a four-page letter, the lawyer asked pertinent questions regarding the issuance of the bond.

But in a brief response, the A-G stated:

“I acknowledge receipt of your letter bearing reference number LL/17/26 and dated 4th May, 2017 on the above subject matter. Please be informed that the information being sought per your letter is not available to me and I am therefore unable to respond to the questions posed therein,” the AG’s office responded.

This response, according to Mr Adawudu only goes to confirm "the Minority's claim that the deal was shrouded in secrecy".

Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness on Friday, the NDC lawyer hinted of his resolve to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion in the interest of the nation.

"The information I'm requesting for will be to my benefit and that of the nation at large so I'll request for the information I need from the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana", he stated, adding that "if I don't get the information I'm requesting for, I'll pursue other means to compel the Ministry of Finance and Bank of Ghana to give it to me".
