Founder of the Independent People's Party (IPP) which has been renamed to Liberal Party of Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo has condemned what he describes as a deliberate harassment and persecution of members of former President John Mahama's administration by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The EOCO has been in the news lately with their investigations into alleged corrupt dealings at the Ghana Coco Board (COCOBOD) under its immediate past leadership taking guite a dramatic turn.

While the assets and bank accounts of COCOBOD's former CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni have been frozen, his Board Chairman, Daniel Oene Agyekum has had his accounts frozen.

But according to Mr Akpaloo, these actions of EOCO targeted at appointees of former President Mahama and happenings during his tenure smacks of selectivity.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM's Ekosii on Thursday, he wondered why the EOCO could not deal with such 'corrupt' people during the previous administration and had to wait until a change of government before take such actions.

"Some appointees of former President Mahama are being persecuted and even some contractors are also being harassed by the EOCO over works done under the Mahama government now and my question is why were those being harassed by the EOCO today not investigated when NDC was in government?"

For him, the EOCO must be called to order because their actions were getting out of hand and may negatively affect the businesses.

"EOCO should not be allowed to destroy the business environment of this country. It is getting crazy", he asserted.

He thus urged that "all democrats and well meaning Ghanaians should speak against the work of the EOCO aimed at persecuting people".
