Voting is currently underway in the Akwatia Constituency as the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) selects its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming September 2 by-election.

Polls opened at 7:00 am. and will close at 4:00 p.m. across designated centres within the constituency.

Three aspirants are contesting the primary: Henry Boakye Yiadom, the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate and a former Member of Parliament for Akwatia; Erasmus Koney Ali, popularly known as Asanka, a current assembly member and presiding member at the local Assembly; and lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo, a newcomer to the constituency’s parliamentary race.

The outcome will determine who represents the NDC in the by-election necessitated by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, six months after the December 2024 general elections.

The Electoral Commission has officially set September 2, 2025, as the date for the parliamentary by-election in Akwatia.
