Colonel Michael Kwadwo Opoku, Director General, National Security says DSP Samuel Azugu's comments that the National security operatives wear mask to prevent mosquitoes was just a joke.

DSP Azugu told the Emile Short Commission probing the Ayawaso violence that the National Security operatives sometimes wear mask to prevent them from mosquito bites.

This comments came as a surprise to many who made mockery of the reason giving by DSP Azugu.

The Commission today asked Col. Opoku about the masked men and the purpose of mask if it was indeed worn to prevent mosquitoes as DSP Azugu said and he claimed that his comments on that bit was a joke.

"I think that DSP Azugu's comment about the mosquitoes was a joke, but people have taken that and left the other reason that he gave"

"He gave two reasons, one was that fact that when they go to certain places there will be mosquitoes so they carry it to cover their face and the second reason was that they don't want to be seen because they live in the communities"

"People have taken the mosquito bit more than the identity bit that is why I said I think it was just a joke"

"Some of my men were masked because they live in those areas and we don't want their cover to be blown".

Several Ghanaians have described DSP Azugu's performance at the Commission as unsatisfactory.

The Emile Short Commission are probing the violence that marred the Ayawaso by-election.
