Veteran Journalist Kweku Baako wants Ayisi Boateng sacked as Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa for his unguarded comments to save Ghana’s diplomatic missions.

The High Commissioner speaking to members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON) in the Ashanti Region said his first priority as a government appointee is members of the NPP, and that if he had his own way, members of TESCON will be prioritized for various jobs.

Several social commentators and civil society have called for his immediate dismissal for his comments.

Pressure group OccupyGhana has demanded an apology from Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa, failing which they will call on the President to remove him from office.

In what could be seen as bowing to pressure, George Ayisi-Boateng said in a statement “I have, upon sober reflection, decided to retract the comments I made during my interaction with some Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region."

However, the Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide Kwaku Baako who spoke on Joy FM news analysis programme, Newsfile said it would be have been prudent if he exited voluntarily after making a public statement that has been condemned as divisive and undiplomatic, but since he has failed to do so, the President must act to save the face of Ghana’s diplomatic missions.

“If I had my way and if I was the adviser to the President I would say that they should ask him [Ayisi-Boateng] to step aside. It is better,”
