Communication Minister Ursula Owusu Ekuful has refuted allegations of corruption levelled against her by the Assin Central Member of Parliament.

Kennedy Agyapong in a media burst claimed that Ursula Owusu-Ekuful illegally collected some monies from foreign investors and awarded the contract for the production of National Identification Cards without due process.

In a statement refuting the claims, the Minister said the allegations are “patently false,” challenging the Assin Central lawmaker to come forth with evidence that corroborates his “outlandish allegations.”

The statement continued that “The falsehoods are clearly born out of ignorance so it is important to clarify that the NIA is not an agency of the Ministry of Communications; that is why the directive was signed by the Chief of Staff in the office  of the President,”

“In accordance with the law of the land, the NIA’s reporting line is directly to the Office of the President. Consequently, as the Minister of Communications, I did not and could not have awarded the contract for the NID, or indeed oversee the process. It would have been ultra vires,” she noted.

The Ablekuma West MP urged her family, friends, sympathisers, and constituents to remain calm because the battle remains the Lord’s and she shall overcome her accusers.
