The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced September 30, 2025, as the date for the Tamale Central Constituency parliamentary by-election.

This follows the unfortunate passing of the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Murtala Muhammed Ibrahim, who was among the victims of the Adansi military helicopter crash, which has rendered the parliamentary seat vacant.

In line with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, the Commission said it will open nominations from prospective parliamentary candidates between Monday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Tamale Metropolitan Office of the EC.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Commission’s website (www.ec.gov.gh) from August 19 to September 10, 2025. Submissions are to be made in person or by appointed representatives between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day.

Each aspirant must have their forms endorsed by two registered voters as proposer and seconder, and supported by at least 18 other registered voters in the constituency.

The filing fee has been set at GH₵10,000 per candidate, while female aspirants and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will benefit from a reduced fee of GH₵7,500.

The EC urged the general public and all stakeholders to take note of these arrangements as political parties prepare to contest the seat left vacant by the late MP in what is expected to be a hotly contested by-election.
