Minister of Trade, Fiifi Kwetey has slammed the New Patriotic Party(NPP) over constantly referring to President John Mahama as incompetent saying the word better suits the opposition.

Speaking at the NDC’s press conference dubbed, “setting the records straight” to react to the NPP’s recent “Promises Made, Promises Broken,” encounter with the media, he sought to explain the meaning of incompetence as far as the NDC is concerned.

Referring to the NPP he said, “incompetence is when a government sets a target of 4% budget deficit in 2008 and finishes the year at 15% deficit, missing the target by a massive 11% and in the process recording the highest budget overrun in our history from 1993.”

“Incompetence is when government set outs to build for major road projects called the gang of four, and that government does not even have a clue where the financing is coming from, that's NPP for you, definition of incompetence,” he stated.

“Incompetence is when a whole government gets scammed by a phantom IFC company and goes through the global humiliation and chasing non-existing a one-billion-dollar loan all the way into a hairdressing saloon, is the definition of incompetence,” he added.

“Incompetence is when a government sets up a whole ministry in charge of railways and still fails to deliver one centimeter of railway line and actually, presides over the situation where some of the existing lines before that government came started been sold as scraps, “he stressed.

He stated further, “incompetence is when a so-called economic guru praises a macro-economic performance doing the period of President Mills while attacking the same President Mahama for not handling the economy well from 2013 till date without even realizing it is the same President Mahama who was the head of the economic management team doing the period, 2009-2012, it is incompetent not to realize that.”

“Incompetence is when a flagbearer who is making claims of being able to transform Ghana was unable to provide basic portable water to his own constituency even though he was MP for twelve long years and a cabinet minister for seven years and incompetence is when the running mate of that same flagbearer goes around promising to remove taxes on pension schemes without knowing that no taxes exist on pension in Ghana.”

“Incompetence is when a party fails to appreciate that one cannot simultaneously be opposed to increase taxation and increase borrowing while at the same time claiming to bringing transformation and prosperity in Ghana, that is not possible,” he stressed.

“Incompetence is when a government is given the full details of a cocaine carrying vessel but that government was still unable to prevent the vanishing of the cargo of cocaine when the vessel arrived at the shores of Ghana.”

Incompetence again he said, is when a flagbearer at a whole Presidential debate says the answer to maternal mortality is free SHS, “that is monumental incompetence”.

Incompetence is when the running mate to the same flagbearer doing the supreme court petition was asked the following questions:

Between a figure written on a cheque and amount written in words, when you are in doubt, which one should a banker rely on? The shocking answer from him was, when in doubt, you must rely on the figure.

“He got that wrong. Something that any elementary banker knows and one does not even have to be a banker to know that it is words that is supposed to be used. And this is that man that calls President Mahama incompetent, God have mercy on Ghana,” he said.

He continued that incompetence is when a government mismanages the economy so badly that it is compelled to sell a precious national asset, Ghana Telecom so as to survive. At no time from 2009 till date had the NDC resort to the sale of a national asset in order to survive.

“Incompetence is when a government have to stay in power for eight years, get 11 times the revenue of a previous government and 4.3 times the loans of that previous government but can still not point to one regional hospital or one public university or one completed affordable house.”

Incompetence is when a government sleeps on the job and waits till there is energy crisis at the end of 2006 before waking up to start adding to the national energy and incompetence is when government promises to reduce importation of rice by one-third and in eight years, rather preside over the increase of rice import from 100 million dollars when they met it to half a billion dollars by close of 2005.

Incompetence is when the NPP increased the duration of SHS without corresponding increase in classrooms to cater for extra numbers of students that will be coming on board and other key facilities that would have preceded the change if quality was not to be jeopardized.

Incompetence is when NPP could not show in its first four years, a major road constructed in Ghana and incompetence is when the NPP doing its eight years allowed Hajj Pilgrims to continue to sleep at the open at the Kotoko International Airport at the mercy of mosquitoes.

The NDC would be organizing a series of forums to address some issues raised by the opposition NPP before the December elections.
