The national chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay has given reasons for MP for Dome-Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo's absence in Parliament.

Freddie Blay said Adwoa Sarfo took a leave of absence to address some health issues.

“I know that she [Adwoa Safo] asked for a period off to take care of some health issues and so let’s not make any hasty decisions …we must appreciate the situations she also finds herself in,” Blay told The Asaase FM on Wednesday.

“It is unfortunate that Adwoa Safo’s matter is in the public domain but I will like to say that at the end of the day Parliamentary proceedings must continue; a resolution will be reached.

“She [Adwoa Safo] represents a people, a constituency. She is there [in Parliament] to advocate their issues and implement government’s developmental agenda and so she owes them a duty,” the party chairman said.

Meanwhile, a former Deputy Minister of Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has lauded the absence of Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo from Parliament.

According to him, her absence has been more beneficial to the people of Ghana.

Some members of the NPP believe Adwoa Safo is sabotaging the government and making some demands before she returns to parliament.

Maverick NPP MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong, has taken on Sarah Adwoa Safo, for her continuous absence from Parliament.

“If you don’t come to parliament and you’re on TikTok dancing, Dome Kwabenya is not for Apostle Kwadwo Safo. She should go and contest on TikTok,” Ken Agyapong charged.

His reference to TikTok follows the absentee MP's constant presence on the social media app -- mostly dancing to gospel songs.

The Dome Kwabenya MP has been absent from Parliament for more than 15 days, triggering calls for her seat to be declared vacant.

The law states that a seat can be declared vacant if an MP fails to show up in the House for 15 days.

Speaking on state-owned GTV on Monday, February 21, 2022, Mr Agyapong accused the Dome Kwabenya MP of twisting the arm of Majority leadership to be made Deputy Majority Leader.
