Although the Electoral Commission (EC) requested for GH¢1.5 billion in 2015 to conduct this year’s election, government has released over GH¢600 million to the Commission for use ahead of November’s polls.
The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu made this known at a public forum on the Constitution Amendment Bill on Monday.
Mr. Iddrisu disclosed “so far, government has released GH¢693 million to support the operations and activities of the Electoral Commission out of a budget request of GH¢822 million.â€
Government slashed the GH¢1.5 to GH¢1.2 billion but Mr. Iddrisu assured the Finance Ministry has made budgetary provisions in the event of run-off during the elections.
