Mr Joseph Osei Yeboah, the independent presidential candidate for the December 2016 presidential election has vowed to industrialise the country if he wins the elections.

Speaking at a the first of a series of presidential debates organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Yeboah said he would develop industries around Ghana’s natural resources.

He said developing a gold industry, for instance, would be a top priority of his, adding that Ghana would refine the gold and process it into jewelry that the country would export.

He said instead of exporting manganese as a raw material, the country could process it and use it into armoured cars for export.

Mr Yeboah spoke passionately about expanding the tax net by targeting the informal sector.

The independent candidate also pledged to set up a national identification database of Ghanaians if he wins power.

For his part, the presidential candidate of the People's National Convention (PNC),Dr Edward Mahama, said he will give Ghanaians gold coins if he wins the December 7 elections.

According to him, minting gold coins and sharing them among Ghanaians will help boost Ghanaians gold refineries.

He also said he would ensure that every Ghanaian child gets chocolate drinks every day, as part of efforts to boost cocoa processing in the country.
