Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei.

The handover took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence, marking the end of Dr Ato Forson’s tenure as caretaker of the ministry.

Dr Ato Forson was appointed to oversee the Defence Ministry following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in the military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

After about a year of providing interim leadership, Dr Ato Forson has now transferred responsibility for the ministry to Mr Adjei, who has been appointed as the new Defence Minister.

The transition was formally completed through the signing of the relevant handover documents by the two ministers.

Mr Adjei is expected to take full charge of the ministry and oversee the implementation of the government’s defence policies and programmes.

He was reassigned from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Defence Ministry as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial reshuffle announced on Friday, August 7, 2026.
