Vice President Joseph Boakai says he is very confident in winning the election in the first round but results declared so far does not favour the incumbent Vice President and his Unity Party.

Speaking to Journalists monitoring the elections, Vice President Joseph Boakai said As “As far as I’m concern, I know the Unity Party is going to win the elections, nothing is going to stop it,”

Per the results declared yesterday, October 14, 2017, Joseph Boakai of the Unity Party is still seeking for higher height with 334,162 votes representing 29.6 percent compared to Senator George Manneh Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) who is in a commanding lead with 441,839 votes which represent to 39.2 percent.

If no single candidate gains more than 50 percent of the vote, a run-off will be scheduled in November between the top two contenders, according to Liberian law. Whoever wins the vote will take over power from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who has served a maximum two terms and is stepping down after 12 years.

According to NEC, 1,193,331 votes have been counted so far, with the turnout at 74.35 percent.

The duo have separated themselves from the 18 other candidates, though longtime opposition leader Charles Brumskine took 9.7 percent of votes counted and Coca-Cola executive Alexander Cummings is 6.9 percent, this lucidly means the role of their supporters will be significant if a run-off is called.

Meanwhile, George Weah is ahead in 12 of Liberia’s 15 counties including Montserrado, it's most populous, while Boakai leads in two including his home county Lofa.
