Mahama crowned ‘Nkosuohene’ by Kwahu chiefs

Government is set to implement a new policy for artisanal miners whose activities continue to degrade the environment.

Speaking on his tour of the Eastern Region at Fanteakwa North and South as well as Atiwa East, President Mahama bemoaned the destruction activities of Small Scale Miners was causing the environment leading to loss of forest cover, farm lands and pollution of water bodies.

To rectify the situation, the Nation Democratic Congress (NDC) leader seeking a second bid mentioned the Minerals Commission will register the Medium Scale Miners to regulate their activities.

“You will be grouped in to a co-operative of 21 people where you will be allowed to mine certain lands and be charged a fee to be used to contract a bulldozer to cover the dug earth after your operation in a particular area.”

Candidate Mahama stated that the Cocoa Road Projects are on course and set for a 5 year period with 1 billion cedis devoted to it.

The chiefs of Kwahu grateful for his developmental initiatives crowned him ‘Nkosuohene’ or Developmental Chief.

Meanwhile President Mahama continues his tour of the Eastern Region today and is scheduled to inaugurate the Cocoa roads and inspect the Nsawam-Aburi road at Kyebi and Nsawam respectively.

He is to visit and interact with the chiefs and people of Kyebi, Nsawam, Aburi and Akropong as well as pay courtesy calls on the Okyehene and Omanhene respectively.
