President John Dramani Mahama will today, Saturday begin a two-day ResettingGhana tour of the Northern Region, his second of such regional engagement after a similar visit to the Bono Region.

The tour, running from Saturday April 18 to Sunday April 19, is designed to give citizens the opportunity to engage the President directly, led by their traditional leaders, to provide feedback on government policy initiatives, share the impact of those initiatives on their daily lives, raise concerns that need addressing and take stock of ongoing development projects in the region.

President Mahama will be accompanied by various ministers of state and heads of institutions during the two-day visit.

On Saturday, the President will cut the sod to commence work on 24-hour markets in the region and inspect the progress of ongoing development projects.

Sunday’s engagement takes a more open and direct form. President Mahama will host a town hall meeting at the University of Development Studies in Tamale, where government appointees will use the occasion to account for major policy interventions carried out over the past year and answer questions from citizens.

The ResettingGhana tour is part of efforts by the Mahama administration to take governance closer to the people, creating direct lines of communication between citizens and their government outside the capital.

The Northern Region visit comes on the heels of a busy week for the President, which included the launch of the Free Primary Healthcare policy in Dodowa, the announcement of fuel price relief measures and a trip to Brazzaville for the investiture of Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
