The Minority in Parliament has presented a cash reward of GH₵100,000 to Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, in recognition of their impressive performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team secured third place in the continental tournament.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who handed over the amount, said the gesture was to honour the team's resilience, hard work, and the pride they brought to the nation.

The Black Queens, who narrowly missed a spot in the final, defeated South Africa in a dramatic third-place playoff to secure the bronze medal.

The Queens triumphed over opponents in a penalty shootout in Morocco, winning 4–3 after a 1–1 stalemate in regular time.

Meanwhile, Black Queens duo Grace Asantewaa and Portia Boakye have been named in the CAF's WAFCON Team of the Tournament, following their standout performances at the competition.
