Some members of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] have petitioned the party hierarchy to oust former Attorney General Martin Amidu from the party.Â
The petitioners Evans Amankwa and Abigail Elorm Mensah say their actions are to defend and protect the NDC as required of members under Articles 45 and 47 of the NDC Constitution.
Article 45 demands of members to defend, protect and be loyal to the party at all times, while 47 outlines the processes to file complaints against the conduct of a member deemed to have violated the party's Constitution.

Martin Amidu, a former Attorney-General under the Atta Mills administration became an avid critic of the party after being fired from the position. He on numerous occasions accused the former NDC government of being corrupt and personally secured a ruling from the Supreme Court, directing NDC financier Alfred Agbesi Woyome to pay back a GHC 51 million judgement debt unlawfully paid him by the state.Â
He recently described the Electoral Commission Chair Charlotte Osei, as an incompetent Chairperson appointed by the former NDC administration, alleging that the appointment of EC chair was an attempt by the NDC to rig the 2016 general elections.
Explaining the motive for the petition, one of the petitioners Abigail Elorm Mensah said the former Attorney General has on several occasions conducted himself in a manner that has brought the party into disrepute and public ridicule and also weakened the unity and cohesion of the party in breach of articles 46[8] and 45.

Meanwhile, a former Deputy Chief of Staff Valerie Sawyerr under the Mahama administration has challenged the former Attorney General Martin Amidu to resign from the party, if he no more believed in the ideals of the NDC.
