The campaign team of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has endorsed John Boadu in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairmanship race.
The decision was announced by the administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, Denise Okyere Danso, at a press conference on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Mr Danso said the campaign had ended its independent bid and would now use its grassroots network and organisational strength to support Mr Boadu.
He said the decision followed consultations with grassroots members, party elders and other stakeholders who had called for greater unity within the party.
“The Wontumi Campaign has taken the decision to close ranks and throw its full weight, organisational capacity and grassroots machinery behind Mr John Boadu for the position of National Chairman,” he said.
According to Mr Danso, the decision was also influenced by a visit to Chairman Wontumi at Nsawam on Friday, September 4, 2026.
He said the alliance would bring together Chairman Wontumi’s grassroots mobilisation strength and Mr Boadu’s experience and knowledge of the party’s structures.
Mr Danso stressed that the endorsement was not only about the two individuals but was aimed at strengthening the NPP ahead of the 2028 general election.
“This is bigger than two campaigns. It is about putting the party above individual interests and ensuring that the NPP emerges stronger, more united and better organised,” he stated.
He said the campaign’s main goal was to help the NPP regain power in 2028 under the leadership of its presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr Danso called on supporters of Chairman Wontumi to actively support Mr Boadu’s campaign.
He also urged all candidates and their supporters to conduct the internal elections peacefully and avoid insults, intimidation and personal attacks.
He said the campaign would uphold the principle of “unity without bitterness”, adding that internal competition should not lead to divisions within the party.
Mr Danso expressed confidence that the alliance would help strengthen the NPP’s support base and improve its preparations for the 2028 elections.
