The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not afraid of the return of the former President Mahama as the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, has asserted.

“Why should we be scared of Mahama’s comeback? After all, we knew he would contest but its important to note that, he [Mahama], cannot come close to us [NPP] in 2020 even if he manages to win the NDC Presidential primaries”, he added.

The NPP scribe said this on Accra based Okay FM monitored by PrimeNewsGhana.

Mr. Boadu said “we are not waiting for the NDC and Mahama to deliver for him to contest the 2020 elections”.

He believes John Mahama will still lose the 2020 general elections even if he wins his party’s primaries to be flagbearer.

Mr. Boadu said the NPP is focused on delivering on its mandate and is certain that Mahama’s decision will not affect the NPP’s chances of winning the upcoming election.

Former President Mahama last Thursday declared his intention to contest in the party’s presidential primaries.

His decision has left some party supporters surprised as they believe he should not have contested due to the humiliating defeat in 2016 elections.
