The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former presidential aspirant and Assin Central stalwart Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to its National Disciplinary Committee over recent public comments considered harmful to party unity.
The decision was reached at a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council on Thursday, June 25, with the committee given two weeks to investigate the petitions and submit recommendations.
The move comes amid growing tensions within the opposition party as it works to rebuild and reposition itself after losing the 2024 general election.
Speaking in an interview, the NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, confirmed that all petitions filed against Mr Agyapong had been forwarded to the disciplinary committee.
“The decision was that all of these petitions must be referred to the National Disciplinary Committee,” he said.
“Let’s manage for the next two weeks, and when we receive the report and a decision is made, it will be communicated appropriately,” he added.
The petitions follow a series of public remarks by Mr Agyapong in which he criticised some decisions taken by the NPP while in government.
