Former flagbearer of Kumasi-based United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike has backed the comments of US President, Donald Trump, describing African countries as ‘shithole’ countries.

According to him, President Donald Trump is justified to call African leaders as naturally born bad and corrupt people.

“For me, he said the reality…We are naturally born bad and corrupt…. I want somebody to challenge we are not bad people”, he dared.

“President Trump has spoken for us Africans. We need to commend him for speaking our minds”, Odike spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM’s morning show hosted by Kofi Asante Ennin.

President Trump is reported to have called African countries and Haiti ‘shithole countries’ while discussing immigration issues with a bipartisan group of senators at the White House on Thursday.

He is quoted to have said: “Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They’re shithole countries … We should have more people from Norway.”

His comments attracted a severe backlash from citizens from several of these countries with many describing his comments as unsavoury and racist.

Ghanaians have not spared him either, many have taken to several social media platforms to register their displeasure and disgust at the comments from one of the most powerful persons in the world.

President Akufo-Addo, through his social media platforms, stated “The language of Donald Trump that the African continent, Haiti, and El Salvador are “shithole countries” is extremely unfortunate. We are certainly not a “shithole country”. We will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful.”
