Professor Seidu Mahama Alidu, a former Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Tamale Central Constituency.
He garnered 840 votes, surpassing 11 other candidates. A total of 1,511 votes were cast, with one rejected ballot recorded.
His nearest rival, Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, a former Municipal Chief Executive of Tamale, received 536 votes.
Prof. Alidu’s decisive victory secures him the NDC’s parliamentary ticket to replace the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash along with seven others, last month.
