Prof Mike Oquaye chairs 9-member NPP Presidential Election Committee

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appointed Professor Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament as the Chairman of the party’s Presidential Election Committee.

The decision was made by the National Council on Thursday, July 20.

Alongside Professor Oquaye, Kwanena Abankwa Yeboah has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the committee. Mr. Yeboah, a former Treasurer will support Professor Oquaye in his responsibilities and contribute to the committee’s overall objectives.

Other notable members of the committee include Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, deputy Majority Leader, Prof. Emmanuel Flolu, Philip Kwasi Nkrumah, Madam RitaTalata Asobayire, Madam Afua Gyekyewaa, Evans Nimako and William Yamoah as Secretary of the Committee.

It would be recalled that the vetting committee of NPP led by Professor Mike Oquaye cleared all 10 presidential aspirants for the special Electoral College election.

The Special Electoral College is scheduled for August 26 and shall be held at the 16 Regional Capital.

In a statement signed by the Party's General Secretary Justin Koduah said "all aspiring Presidential Candidates shall be given the validated Album for the Special Electoral College at least one month to the date of the Congress (i.e not later than July 26, 2023).

The National Council has vowed to deal with an aspiring who act in contravention of the Code of Conduct.

This follows some unhealthy comments and utterances from aspiring Presidential candidates and their supporters.
