The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has appointed Yaw Asani Tano, the deputy General Secretary in charge of Administration as the acting General Secretary and Nabila Basiru, the deputy Youth Organiser as Youth Organiser.

A statement signed by the National Chairman of the party, Prof Edmund N. Delle, on Thursday July 7, said the new arrangement "takes effect immediately until further notice".

The two take over from General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah and Youth Organiser, Ernesto Yeboah who were suspended indefinitely by the party's  Central Committee on June 30 for publicly humiliating flagbearer, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet in the media.

Mr Greenstreet during his turn at the Institute of Economic Affairs' (IEA) Evening Encounter refused to condemn President John Mahama for receiving a $100, 000 Ford car as a gift from a Burkinabe contractor saying “They want me to jump on their bandwagon. I am not an agitator for other people’s political intentions. And we’ve constantly heard the refrain on radio, people are tried on radio and are found guilty even before they have the opportunity to respond….I refuse to be part of a group of people who seek to denigrate individuals…I won’t tell the president he is corrupt unless I have evidence against him”.

This position was deemed by many including the party's now suspended youth organiser and general secretary who both publicly contradicted their flagbearer position.

But according to the party, the actions of Mr. Yeboah and Mr. Akomfrah had brought the party’s name into disrepute hence their suspension.
