President  Akufo-Addo has revealed that a total of 998 people work at the seat of government, the Jubilee House in Accra.

He made the revelation in a list he presented to Parliament in compliance with Section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), which requires the President to submit annually to Parliament, a report on the staffing position of the Office of the President.

The breakdown was given as nine ministers of state, 27 presidential staffers, 256 other/junior appointees and 706 employees of public/civil service staff.

Meanwhile, a political science lecturer at KNUST, Dr. Edward Brenya is of the view that appointments made by the Akufo -Addo so far show a “waste” of the taxpayers money and has therefore asked President Akufo-Addo to publicly concede that he deceived Ghanaians when he promised that his government will protect the public purse.

Speaking on 3FM, Dr. Brenya said the New Patriotic Party, NPP believes in property-owning democracy, it is therefore expected that once the president subscribes to that ideology, he should be the one forming a lean government.

“Is it not ironic that the president who has promised to protect the public purse, has done nothing but just wasting the public purse?” he noted.

He added that when the 110 appointees were made, President Akufo-Addo was given the “benefit of the doubt, but now tell me, what is it that the NPP has done differently from presidents that we have seen? What has President Akufo-Addo’s done differently with that huge number of ministers  that he appointed, what have they done?”

He further observed: “Interesting how politicians find ways and means to reward people and waste taxpayers money and later on turn around pointing accusing fingers at others.

“It is nothing but a waste of taxpayers money and I think that we should call spade a spade; the president at this point has totally, totally, sort of deceived Ghanaians and I think he has to come right and tell Ghanaians that I have deceived you, I have not lived up to my promise.”
