The Sunday, November 13 Regional Health Walk organised by the Greater Accra Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have gone on without incident till the team opted to use the Nima lane which also hosts NPP presidential nominee, Akufo-Addo and the Nima Police Station.

At that perimeter, it emerged gun shots were fired in the air to ward off incursions, a gun was drawn on a police commander while bottles and stones were also hurled. There is consensus the actions happened but which party undertook the acts or which instigated them is up for debate.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) functionaries have been quick to condemn the attacks yet blame the opposing side for its instigation.

The police for its part say they are investigating the case and will apprehend offenders in due time. But it is also emerging President Mahama himself might have been a participant of the very health walk the NDC functionaries embarked upon which ended in a skirmish and has since generated talk on radio, online and TV.

This writer is not in the know when the president separated from the larger group for if he were to have still been with the general marchers, early reporters who trooped to the Nima scene would have mentioned the find of the country’s leader.

Below is the Press Release from the Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC):

PRESS RELEASE: CONGRATS FOR MASSIVE SUPPORT TO GREATER ACCRA WALK FOR VICTORY 2016

The Greater Accra Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wish to sincerely congratulate all party members, supporters, sympathisers and enthusiastic admirers for turning out in your numbers to participate in the Walk For Victory programme which was successfully organised last Sunday

We particularly single out His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for having time to lead the exercise despite his heavy schedule of campaign and official duties.

We thank the organisers for a good job done.

The massive time-out showed the strength of the NDC in the Region which, we hope, should reflect in our projected one-touch victory by everybody turning out to massively vote for NDC on December 7 to crown our efforts with the hope of continuing our changing lives and transforming Ghana project.

Long live the NDC

Long live Ghana

Signed:

Jerry Johnson
