The vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, says his party has plans to introduce Arabic as an optional subject in junior high schools and senior high schools in the country.

Speaking to party supporters at the campaign launch of the NPP parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central Dr Barhama Ibrahim Anyass Imoro,  he said teaching Arabic at the basic level will a provide foundation for people who plan to study Arabic as a course at the university.

although Arabic is a  course at the university level , it is not studied at the basic and secondary levels, and so students lack the foundation on which to build if they opt to learn Arabic at the university.

He said it will also help create jobs for Islamic clerics who will be teaching the Arabic subject.

Dr Bawumia also stepped up his criticism of the President John Mahama, describing him as a failure.

He appealed to Ghanaians to vote our the National Democratic Congress to enable the NPP carry out rapid transformation of the country.

He said the party's "one district, one factory" policy, for instance, would create thousands of jobs for Ghanaians.
