The New Patriotic Party (NPP) had warned that a John Mahama victory in the December election will destroy the country.

Boakye Agyarko, a top aide to party flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, said at a press conference held to dissect the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto, that the country’s financial condition was so bad that Mahama would barely have any funds to undertake developmental projects if he won the election.

Agyarko said the Ministry of Finance had put the total amount government could spend in 2017 at GH¢56,689,811,909.

He said out of that, employees' compensation, including salaries and wages, would be allocated GH¢15.6 billion (15,604,905,129) while payment of debts will be GH¢17.55 billion.

He said in the final analysis, the government would have less than GH¢3 billion to spend.

“…if re-elected, the Mahama government will have less than GH¢3 billion; in precise figures, GH¢2,903,499,974 to spend in 2017. This is what they have planned; meaning there have no innovative ideas to wriggle out of this mess if re-elected.

“Meanwhile, the cost of the rest of the budgetary items left to fund is almost half of the total resource envelope of  GH¢57billion! But, remember that there will be only GH¢3 billion left to do all the work, including capital expenditure to build schools, clinics, roads … to procure goods and services for MDAs, pay some extra GH¢12bn grants for other Govt Units, tax refund, subsidies."

Agyarko went on to plead with Ghanaians not to renew the NDC’s mandate, stressing that it would spell disaster for the country.

He said the NPP, however, has what it takes to turn what he called a hopeless situation around and put Ghana back on the path of prosperity.
