The Venue Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) has launched on Tuesday August 11, 2018 in Cape Coast.

The 15-member LOC members for the host city of Cape Coast will be chaired by Thomas Adjei, Dep. Central Regional Minister and also includes George Osafo Agyei Central Regional National Sports Authority, Nana Amaba Eyiba 1 ( Queen-mother -Effutu ) and Chief Sup. Jonathan Lamptey of the Ghana Police Service as members.

Present at the launch was the main LOC chairperson, Freda Prempeh, Deputy Sports Minister, Perry Okudzeto, Hon. Ernest Arthur, Hon. Thomas Adjei and Nana Amaba Eyiaba.

Madam Prempeh explained the core duty of the venue LOC and said they will be tasked with the efficient running of the AWCON in Cape Coast one of the hosting cities for the tournament.

She urged the venue LOC to work hard and pull off their various tasks.

“We have about 6 weeks to the start of the tournament. Thus, I hope that those who have been chosen to form the venue LOC will not let the main LOC and that they will deliver on their mandate.”

She went ahead to address concerns of Ghana possibly losing the hosting rights of the tournament.

“We heard some speculation concerning the tournament but let me make things clear. We have not had any formal communication from CAF over the hosting of the Women’s AFCON and so, Ghana is poised to host the tournament later this year.”

Ghana will host the tournament which begins on the November 17 to December 1.
