2018 AWCON: Ethiopia referee appointed for Ghana-Algeria opener

Ethiopia referee Lidya Tafesse has been appointed to officiate the Black Queens' opener against Algeria in the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations tournament(AWCON).

The Black Queens will lock horns with Algeria in the opener on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The game will be officiated by Lidya Tafesse, who will be making her 123rd appearance at the finals this term.

The Ethiopian referee will be assisted by Queency Victoire of Mauritius and Mary Wanjiru of Kenya with Maria Rivet (Mauritius) being the fourth official of the match.

Ghana is expected by most Ghanaians to win the tournament which kickstarts on Saturday.

The Black Queens are aiming to break their trophy drought after losing three finals to Nigeria in 1998, 2000 and 2004 in the tournament's history.
