Government is seeking approval from Parliament for a $170m loan facility to finance the upcoming 2023 African Games.

The said amount will be obtained through a facility from Cal Bank and will be used to provide sports infrastructure, which includes the yet-to-be-completed University of Ghana Stadium and also residential facilities for the Games that will be staged in Ghana in two years' time.

The proposal has been referred to the finance committee for consideration and report before approval.

It would be recalled that government has canceled plans to construct a 50,000 capacity stadium at Borteyman to host the 2023 African Games as a result of delays in executing the project.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament last month, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif explained that the uncompleted stadium at Legon will now be the centre of the games in 2 year's time.

President Akufo-Addo in October last year when he inaugurated a nine-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) to commence preparations towards the 13th African Games said land has been secured for the construction which will host the opening and closing ceremony of the games.

However, latest development given by the Sports Minister is that the games will now be staged at the Legon Stadium which will be refurbished.

The 13th edition of the Africa Games, formerly known as the All African Games would involve 54 participating countries and 25 sporting disciplines.
