President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has announced a new player welfare initiative that will provide healthcare support to former Ghana national team players facing medical challenges.

Speaking at the 32nd Ordinary Session of the GFA Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, President Simeon-Okraku unveiled the GFA Foundation Player Welfare Initiative, under which the GFA will commit US$50,000 annually for the next four years towards the healthcare needs of former national team players.

The initiative represents a total commitment of US$200,000 over the four-year period.

President Simeon-Okraku said the programme was designed to honour former national team players who dedicated their careers to representing Ghana and brought pride to the nation through their service.

“Our former national team players brought immense pride and glory to Ghana through their dedication, sacrifice and service to the nation,” he said.

“Many of them continue to face significant health challenges long after their playing careers have ended, and it is only fitting that the football family stands with them during these difficult moments.”

Under the initiative, the GFA Foundation will set aside US$50,000 every year, creating a dedicated welfare mechanism to assist eligible former national team players with healthcare needs.

Over four years, the commitment will amount to US$200,000, marking one of the GFA's significant direct interventions in the welfare of former national stars.
