Below PrimeNews looks at 5 things we learned from the weekend round of matches.

Maxwell Abbey Quaye bags First Ghana Premier League hattrick

Maxwell Abbey Quaye became the first player to score a hat-trick in this season's Ghana Premier League. Abbey Quaye scored the hattrick in Great Olympics' 3-1 win over Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Abbey Quaye opened the scoring of the match with a brilliant finish in the 21st minute after a pass from James Akaminko.

The 23-year-old doubled his tally in the 64th minute after he was played through by midfielder George Asamoah.

Abbey Quaye completed his hattrick four minutes later after scoring from the spot.

Kotoko return to Baba Yara Sports Stadium

Asante Kotoko finally returned to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium after quite a long time away from home. The Porcupine Warriors’ last outing at the stadium was back in February 16, 2020, when they played out a goalless draw with AshantiGold in the truncated 2019/20 season.

After 629 days Kotoko made a return to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Porcupines did not only return to their favourite venue but gave their fans something to cheer about.

Prosper Narteh's Kotoko beat stubborn Bechem United 2-0 on Sunday. The Hunters for the majority of the gave proved a difficult nut to crack for the Porcupines.

But the Reds finally found their way to breach the defence of Becehm in the dying embers of the game, scoring late goals from Ismael Ganiu and Samuel Boateng.

The win has seen Kotoko go top of the league.

Hearts of Oak yet to pick a win

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak title defence has not had the best of starts to the season. The Ghana Premier League champions are winless after the opening two games.

The Phobians in their first match played a 0-0 stalemate with Legon Cities held at the Accra Sports Stadium while they were once again held by WAFA 1-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope.

Away wins still the same

The number of away wins on matchday 2 of the Ghana Premier League is the same as the Matchday 1.

The opening weekend saw 2 teams picking the maximum points at their opponent's venue being Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold.

However, that number remains the same with King Fasal and Dreams FC the only teams win to come out from the enemies' territory unscattered.

Legon Cities, King Faisal pick up wins

Legon Cities and King Faisal bagged their first win of the season over the weekend.

Legon Cities who held Hearts of Oak to a goalless stalemate on matchday 1 this time around beat RTU 3-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

King Faisal on the other hand, won their second game of the season after handing Aduana Stars their first home defeat by 3-0 at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park.
