The Black Stars of Ghana are out of the 33rd edition of AFCON, Cameroon 2021 after succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against Comoros.
After a disappointing start to their AFCON campaign, the Black Stars were hoping to avoid an early exit but the Comoros test proved to be a difficult hurdle for them.
In the three-matches played, Ghana surprisingly failed to win a single match, suffering defeats against Morocco (1-0) and Comoros (3-2) sandwich between Gabon (1-1) draw.
This is the second time the four-time AFCON champion has been eliminated early from the continent's biggest football showpiece in the last two decades.
The last time was in 2006 was Zimbabwe handed them the shock exit.
On Tuesday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium, the Black Stars were handed an early setback when Comoros went ahead courtesy Ben Mohammed's 4th-minute strike after leaving Ghana's defence open.
Ghana's bid to find the equalizer proved to be a daunting task after captain Andre Ayew in the 25th minute following his lunge on the goalkeeper.
Comoros after the break doubled their advantage through Ahmed Mogni but substitute Richmond Boakye Yiadom handed Ghana a lifeline.
Minutes later, Alaxander Djiku drew parity for the Black Stars after he connected home from Painstil's header.
Any hopes of the Black Stars picking even a point from the game was dashed when Ahmed Mogni scored his second on the day to malke it 3-2 for the debutants.
Comoros victory means Ghana lie bottom of the Group with a point.
Milovan Rajevac was handed the mandate to lead Ghana to continental glory when he was appointed in September.
But the coach found the task too big after his second stint with the Black Stars.
He was tasked to win AFCON 2021 and pocket a whopping $300,000 dollars but he rather produced one on Ghana's abysmal performance in the continent's football showpiece.
