Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew is not giving up on leading his nation to glory before he hands up his boots.

The Al Sadd forward has called on Ghanaians to forgive the team after their quest to win the nation's fifth AFCON trophy suffered a big blow on Tuesday after a 3-2 defeat to Comoros leading to their exit from the competition.

He admitted that they were disappointed to have exited the AFCON 2021.

According to Ayew, they are going back to correct their mistakes and return for the next AFCON, Cote d'Ivoire 2023.

"... we need to learn from this, we need to go back ... as players calm our heads and take the criticisms and apologise to the nation for not going to the next stage. We are very disappointed because this is not Ghana.

But I think if you guys know me, you know that I leave to fight another day.

We will back we are going to work hard," Andre Ayew said.

Ghana suffered a humiliating group-stage exit at AFCON 2021 after the four-time champions were beaten by debutants Comoros on Tuesday.

El Fardou Ben Nabouhane put the islanders ahead early on, and Ghana then went down to 10 men when Andre Ayew was shown a straight red card.

Ahmed Mogni doubled the lead before the Black Stars fought back to make it 2-2.

However, Mogni tapped in his second in the 85th minute to inflict Ghana's first group-stage exit since 2006.

The result in Group C will go down as one of the biggest shocks in Nations Cup history as Comoros scored at the finals for the first time and then went on to record their maiden victory.
