Senegal came from behind to draw with DR Congo in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with both sides edging closer to ensuring their place in the last 16.

The 2021 AFCON champions, Senegal, were dominant in the first half, having nine shots and nearly 70% possession compared to DR Congo’s zero efforts on goal.

However, it was Cedric Bakambu who gave DR Congo the lead just after the hour mark, when he tapped in from close range having pounced on a rebound that was parried into his path by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

But the Lions of Teranga equalised eight minutes later as substitute Ibrahim Mbaye burst through the defence and took a shot which was saved by Lionel Mpasi, but Sadio Mane showed composure and placed a smart finish into the corner past the two defenders who were on the line.

Senegal top the group on four points, ahead of DR Congo on goal difference. Benin are third on three points, having beaten Botswana in the earlier kick off.

The final round of Group D fixtures take place on Tuesday, with Senegal taking on Benin and DR Congo facing Botswana. Four points should be enough for both Senegal and DR Congo to qualify, but topping the group would give either side a third-place side in the last 16.
