AFCON 2025: Senegal beats Sudan to reach quarterfinals

Senegal defeated Sudan 3–1 in their Round of 16 final match at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday at the Grand Stadium of Tangier, securing a place in the quarterfinal.

Teranga Lions forward Aamir Yunis Abdallah opened the scoring in the sixth minute.

Senegal’s Pape Gueye equalized in the 29th minute before scoring again in first-half stoppage time (45+3). Brahim Mbaye sealed the win with a third goal in the 77th minute.

In the group stage, Senegal topped Group D with seven points from two wins and a draw, scoring 7 goals and conceding just 1. Sudan qualified for the Round of 16 with one win and two losses, conceding a total of six goals.
