Alex Agyekum, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture has called on the Normalization Committee to retract certain words used to describe the Ghana Premier League Clubs in their Press Release on the cancellation of the Special Competition.

The Normalization Committee canceled the special competition which was to revive football in the country last week following an impasse between them and the Premier League Clubs.

A release from the Committee branded the clubs as selfish, greedy and braggadocio. A statement which Tier 1 clubs have demanded an apology from the Dr Kofi Amoah-led Committee.

Following a meeting between the Parliamentary Select Committee and the Normalization Committee yesterday to discuss their mandate and other matters, Alex Agyekum disclosed that the Normalization Committee has been told to retract the words used to describe the clubs.

“We have asked the Normalization Committee to apologize to the clubs for the words used in their release, they should retract their words. Yes, we told them point blank.”

However, the Sports and Culture Committee of Ghana’s Parliament has told the NC to organize Congress and give out details of all monetary issues concerning the stop-gap tournament.

“They’re to organize Congress to explain to the clubs the financial issues because as we speak the Normalization Committee told us they have only $500,000 at hand and yet to receive the rest of the $700,000 but they should let the clubs know what is happening,” Hon Alex Agyekum stated on Oyerepa FM.
