The majority shareholder of Ashgold, Dr Kwaku Frimpong has disclosed the reason behind the club's withdrawal from participating in Africa’s inter-club competition next year.

Ashgold were part of the few clubs considered to participate in the Africa inter-club competition next year despite the consensus that, no Ghanaian club would compete in Africa after the Normalisation Committee met the club owners at the Alisa Hotel.

But surprisingly, the Miners dropped their interest to participate in the African terrain and Dr. Kwaku Frimpong has revealed to the public why the Obuasi-based club took such a decision.

"We had wanted to go to Africa and they said we weren't going anymore, so we called our scouts from Scotland and they're here and asking for players," he told Happy FM.

"If they say they want players and you say we won't go to Africa, we can't stop, we are doing business, so we have to sell our players and forget about Africa.

"These are very big scouts, they are taking more players from us and I think that's the opportunity so we have taken a big chance on that."

Kumasi-based club, Asante Kotoko are the only representative of Ghana on the African terrain specifically, the CAF Confederations Cup.
