Ghana’s Black Princesses have secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland after battling to a 1-1 draw against Uganda in Kampala.
The Black Princesses advanced 3-2 on aggregate, having won the first leg 2-1 in Accra.
Uganda took an early lead in the 6th minute through Sylvia Kabene and looked set to force the game in their favour as they held onto the advantage for much of the contest.
Ghana’s task became even more difficult in the 68th minute when Margaret Yeboah was sent off, reducing the visitors to ten players.
Despite the setback, the Black Princesses responded strongly in the second half with coach Yusif Basigi introducing Sarah Nyarko and Priscilla Mensah for Ivy Osei Owusu and Agnes Yeboah.
Their persistence paid off in the 78th minute when Linda Owusu Ansah scored directly from a corner kick to restore parity and silence the home crowd.
Ghana held firm in the closing stages to secure the crucial away draw and book a place at the World Cup.
The qualification marks Ghana’s eighth appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after previous participations in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2024.
