The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed South African referee, Victor Miguel De Freitas Gomes to officiate the final Group C game in the Confederation Cup between Zesco United and Asante Kotoko in Zambia.

Victor Gomes made his first appearance in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 2009, and two years later he made his international debut.

He was born Victor Miguel de Freitas Gomes on 15 December 1982.

Gomes has served on the FIFA Panel for nine years and has been on the National Panel for eleven years.

His most memorable game was when he officiated the clash between Celtics vs. Pirates Telkom Knock-Out Quarter Final in the 2012/2013 PSL season.

Gomes was voted for PSL Referee of the Year in the 2012/2013.

He is famously remembered for controversially disallowing a neatly taken penalty by Baroka FC midfielder Richard Matloga citing encroachment on the side of opponents Golden Arrows last.

These events happened in a PSL league match between Golden Arrows and Baroka FC and the score was standing at 3-2 when Miguel awarded the dubious penalty to Baroka FC. Television reviews and replays revealed that Gomes was wrong to disallow the goal and his decision was widely criticized across South Africa and many called for him to be scrapped off his refereeing license.

Victor Miguel Gomes will be assisted by fellow countrymen Zakhele Thusi Siwela and Athenkosi Ndongeni as assistant line and two respectfully.

The Porcupines will be seeking to record their second win over the Zambians after inflicting a painful 2-1 victory over them in matchday two at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Kotoko will have to beat Zesco by all means if they want to progress to the next stage of the competition.

The Porcupines are in a skintight position to qualify from the group stage after failing to beat Sudan's Al Hilal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The clash scheduled for Sunday, March 17 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
