Ghalca G8:Hearts beat Kotoko 4-2 on penalties to qualify for final

Accra Hearts of Oak are through to the finals of the Ghalca G8 tournament after beating rivals Kotoko 4-2 on penalties.

The game which started very lively saw the Phobians dominate the early exchanges and had a brilliant chance to score which was missed by Cosmos Dauda to end the first half.

The tables turned in the second period which was largely an end to end action but Kotoko had the better of possession and missed a number of half chances.

Christopher Bonney should have given Hearts the lead but blasted a good chance over the bar.

The game ended with no goals and both sides had to be separated by penalty shootout.

Hearts of Oak converted their first spot-kick by Christopher Bonney only for Kotoko to miss theirs through Jackson Owusu.

Francis Morton made no mistake as he slotted home Hearts second penalty of the day.

Baba Mahama followed suit and scored Kotoko's first penalty kick to make it 2-1 to Hearts.

Kotoko were given a lifeline when Richard Akrofi's kick was saved by goalkeeper Felix Annan.

Awudu Nafiu stepped up for Kotoko and beat Hearts goalkeeper Ben Mensah. Wing Wizard Patrick Razak calmly slotted home Hearts fourth penalty to give them the edge.

Kotoko captain Eric Donkor's kick was saved by Ben Mensah and former Medeama midfielder Malik Akowuah scored the winning penalty for Hearts to make it 4-2.

Hearts now awaits the winner between Medeama and Dreams FC tomorrow as the final is scheduled for Sunday.
