Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars kicked off their 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament campaign with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Kotoko struck first after just 16 minutes, with Albert Amoah finishing off a fine assist from captain Samba O’Neil.
But the lead was short-lived, as the Premier League champions drew level from the penalty spot. Samba brought down his marker inside the box, and Samuel Atta Kumi calmly converted to make it 1-1 before halftime.
Both sides resumed strongly after the break, with Kotoko enjoying more possession, but GoldStars’ compact defending kept them in the contest.
The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when a defensive mix-up between Henry Ansu and goalkeeper Mohammed Camara gifted GoldStars their second goal, the decisive strike of the afternoon.
Kotoko pressed relentlessly for an equaliser but failed to break down their opponents’ resilient backline.
The result means GoldStars begin their campaign on a high note and will now face Hearts of Oak in their next fixture, while Kotoko seek redemption against Heart of Lions.
Both matches are scheduled for Friday, August 22.
