Ghana needs $600,000 in order to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games which is scheduled to take off in the Brazilian city of Rio on August 5.

According to leader of delegation to the Games, Christopher Eslifie, his outfit has presented an estimated budget of $600,000 to the Ministry of Sports.

The current budget, he says, is a cut down on the initial $800,000 budget presented to the Ministry for an estimated contingent of 25 players.

The cut down became necessary after only 16 contingents qualified for the multi-sports event.

Mr Eslifie was optimistic that with a series of meetings with the Sports Minister their financial demand will be met.

“We have already communicated to the Sports Ministry and the discussions are going well, and they are quite aware of that and I don’t see why we should worry.

"They (MOYS) bring money to support the travel [and] they call it the travel grant so we then fix a particular figure for each athlete for air ticket and it is usually pre-financed”, he said on Starr FM.
