Ghana Premier League matchday 25 wrap: Hearts lose 3rd consecutive game, Samartex open 3-point lead

Medeama produced a brilliant performance to beat Hearts of Oak 2-0 in Tarkwa, Heart of Lions put Accra Lions to the sword while Samartex left it late to pick a point at Legon Cities.

We have a rundown of Wednesday's matchday 25 Ghana Premier League matches.

Medeama 2-0 Hearts of Oak 

Medeama defeated Hearts of Oak 2-0 at the Akoon Community Park to put the champions back into business.

Second-half goals by Kobina Amoah and Godfred Abban downed the Phobians on matchday 25 of the Ghanaian top-flight.

Amoah, a centre-back, drilled home the opener through a powerful free-kick in the 65th minute before Godfred Abban put the icing on the cake eight minutes to regulation time.

The Mauve and Yellow have banished recent defeats to Accra Lions and Samartex to record their first win in three matches.

The win, has lifted the champions to fifth on the league table with 36 points from 25 matches.

Hearts of Oak have now suffered three successive defeats to spark concerns within the group.

Their latest setback followed their 2-1 defeat at league leaders Samartex and their 1-0 blip at home to Bibiani Gold Stars.

They have now slipped to 11th on the table- and now in a difficult position of challenging for the Premier League crown.

Legon Cities FC 1-1 Samartex

Emmanuel Owusu Boakye scored on the stroke of full time to hand league leaders Samartex a precious 1-1 draw at Legon Cities FC in Dawu.

Baba Hamadu Musah put the ball in his own net for the visitors  in the 43rd minute as Cities appeared to be coasting to victory until Owusu Boakye's late, late equaliser.

Owusu drilled home the much-needed equalizer to break hearts at the Theatre of Dreams - and put the Timber giants in firm control at the top of the table.

Samartex have now opened a three point lead at the summit of the table after second-placed Nations FC dropped points at struggling Real Tamale United.

Real Tamale United 1-0 Nations FC

Real Tamale United recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Nations FC in their battle against relegation.

Mohammed Iddris' strike on 51 minutes handed the basement club a precious win against the second-placed team at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre.

The win will do a lot for the confidence of United but will need to work their socks off if they are to avoid the drop with nine matches left to play.

Nations FC will ruin the lost opportunity of closing the gap at the top after slipping on the road.

Heart of Lions 2-0 Accra Lions

Relegation-threatened Heart of Lions recorded a 2-0 win over high-flying Accra Lions to revive confidence on matchday-25 of the Ghana Premier League.

A goal in each half from Kwesi Pong and Ebenezer Abban condemned Accra Lions to their 9th defeat of the campaign at the Kpando park.

Despite the win, Heart of Lions are still deeply involved in the relegation dog-fight with nine matches left to spare.

Berekum Chelsea 3-2 Dreams FC 

Berekum Chelsea staged a remarkable comeback to down Dreams FC in a five-goal thriller to move into the top-four at the Golden City Park in Berekum.

Shaibu Haruna scored five minutes into stoppage time to hand Chelsea a 3-2 win against the Believers at home on Wednesday.

Stephen Amankona scored from the spot on 28 minute to give Chelsea the lead but it was canceled out by Eric Danso Boateng on the stroke of the first half.

Danso, again got his second on the day on 70th minute before Amankona also grabbed his double by pulling parity with nine minutes left to play.

Shaibu Haruna sparked wild jubilation in Berekum after he grabbed the much-needed winner with virtually the last kick of the game.

The Bibires have now jumped into the top-four with nine games left to end the season.

Bofoakwa Tano 1-0 Aduana Stars

Bofoakwa Tano have moved out of the relegation zone after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Aduana Stars in the Bono derby on Wednesday.

Emmanuel Agyenim Boateng's 47th minute strike was all that Bofo needed to seal victory at the Coronation park in Sunyani.

Aduana remain third on the table with 39 points, seven adrift of leaders Samartex with the title race set for a photo-finish.

Gold Stars 3-2 Karela United

Veteran Abednego Tetteh scored from the spot to hand Gold Stars a 3-2 win over Karela United in a five-goal drama in Bibiani.

The visitors went up as early as the 3rd minute courtesy Dafie Humin Mohammed before Prince Kwabena Owusu pulled parity in the 18th minute.

Mawuli Wayo, who scored the solitary goal against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, put the Miners infront on 64 minutes before a resilient United fought back to draw level through Samuel Atta Kumi on 82 minutes.

However, experienced striker, Abednego Tetteh stepped up to score the match-winner from the spot seven minutes into stoppage time.

Accra Great Olympics 1-1 Bechem United

Accra Great Olympics left it late to draw 1-1 at home to Bechem United on Wednesday.

Mathew Agama scored seven minutes into stoppage time to deny United a big win in the capital.

Cephas Mantey scored for Bechem United in the 81st minute and appeared to be cruising to victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.

But Olympics resilience paid off after Mathew Agama scored with the last kick of the match.

The stalemate has left Bechem United 11th on the table with 35 points while Great Olympics lie 12th with 32 points.
