Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that plans are underway to construct a 50,000-capacity stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex by 2028.

This follows growing concerns that the country lacks an ultra-modern sports facility capable of hosting top-tier international tournaments.

Speaking in an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the minister noted that the project is part of the government’s vision to transform the Borteyman area into a modern sports city.

“We are looking to have a new stadium of that size around our Borteyman Sports Complex. We want to elevate the entire space into a sports city or village so that international clubs can come, camp, and train there.”

“We want to do a minimum of 50,000 in the Borteyman space, and we should be able to finish it before 2028.”

Mr. Adams further explained that the project will also include accommodation facilities to reduce future costs for the national teams.

“With such a facility, we will also add accommodation. When this is done, you will not see accommodation for the Black Stars on the national budget. But we are working on a PPP arrangement.”

Currently, the Accra Sports Stadium remains the only venue in Ghana considered suitable to host CAF/FIFA-sanctioned major tournaments.
