Hearts of Oak secured the 2025 Homowo Cup after defeating Kpando Heart of Lions 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Phobians wrapped up the victory within a blistering four-minute spell in the first half. New signing Frank Duku opened the scoring in the 36th minute, pouncing on a rebound from a set-piece to register his debut goal for the club.
Four minutes later, Duku turned provider, setting up Hamza Issah, who lofted the ball over the onrushing Lions’ goalkeeper to double the advantage.
Coach Mas-Ud Dramani’s men controlled much of the opening half and looked sharp in transition, punishing the Lions’ defence with quick counters.
Though Kpando Heart of Lions came out stronger after the break, they could not break down a resolute Hearts backline marshalled with discipline and composure.
The ceremonial fixture, played in honour of the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, drew several dignitaries, including National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe.
