Long-serving President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou has lost his re-election bid to the President of the Malagasy Football Association (MFA), Ahmad Ahmad.

At CAF's 39th General Assembly held in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, Ahmad polled 34 votes while Hayatou got 20 votes.

The 70-year-old Hayatou had campaigned on his wealth experience saying he had "unparalleled experience and track record in leading Africa" but the delegates went with the Madagascan who promised all sorts of financial goodies to delegates, saying the money belongs to you and not CAF and also "open the doors of CAF to everyone".

Ahmad's victory could be described as a tsunami in the football fraternity as Hayatou has had a profound grip on the position since he took over in 1988.
