Asante Kotoko have parted ways with head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
The club announced Zito’s resignation via a statement release in the lead up to Kotoko’s big game against arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
“Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as the head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect" the Kumasi-based club said.
Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services and wished him the best for the future.
The new technical direction of the club will be communicated in due course.”
Defending champions, Kotoko, got kicked out of the MTN FA Cup round of 16 stage by Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Kotoko played out a goalless draw with Aduana but suffered a 4-2 loss in the penalty shootout.
Speaking after the game, Kotoko assistant coach Prince Owusu said elimination from the FA Cup was embarrassing. Under Zito, Kotoko won the FA Cup, President’s Cup and Champion of Champions Cup (Super Cup).
