Michael Essien has rubbished reports that the black stars threatened to boycott games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Michael Essien was part of the black stars team in Brazil.

Reports circulated that the black stars threatened to boycott matches at the World Cup in Brazil following delay with regards to appearance fees and bonuses.

However, Michael Essien denied the story and said the journalist who fabricated the story is 'stupid'

“Nobody had to boycott the match, it is an official game and we cannot say we will not play so whoever came out with that story is very stupid,” Michael Essien said.

The report went viral which induced the then-President John Dramani Mahama ordered the lifting of cash from Ghana to Brazil following the players' impatience.

The Blackstars exited from the group stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil irrespective of the 4$ the team received.
